BS EN 789 Timber Structures – Test methods – Determination of Mechanical Properties of Wood-Based Panels
BS EN 789 describes test methods for determining some mechanical properties of commercial wood-based panel products for use in load-bearing timber structures.
These properties are intended for the calculation of characteristic values according to EN 1058 – Wood-Based Panels – Determination of characteristic values
of mechanical properties and density.
The characteristic values so calculated are used to obtain the design values for the use of plywood, OSB and LVL in timber structures designed to Eurocode 5.
The mechanical properties being tested are:
Bending properties
Compression properties in the plane of the panel
Tension properties
Panel shear properties
Planar shear properties.
Both EN 789 and EN 1058 are referenced in the harmonised European standard EN 13986 for wood-based panel products. EN 789 is not intended to be used for quality control testing.
*** Before conducting BS EN 789 , it is important to read the entire specification. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standard authorities.
